Attention and memory are two topics of the moment fashion. Especially when it comes to human development. Be it in infancy, in the school period, in the stress of adulthood or in the period of senescence. Attention and memory are two themes of my agenda. In general, concerns are about the loss or diminution of both or the potentiation of these two mental faculties.

Attention is, neurologically, the state of activation of the senses (especially vision and hearing) and cognitive systems for external and/or internal stimuli at a given moment. It is to be connected in what is happening in the present, either in the world of the senses or in the reasoning. Concentration is the voluntary state of directing this attention to specific stimuli.

Some things are absolutely right in relation to attention: the greater the attention, the greater the pregnancy caused by the stimulus. That is, if the neurological equipment is complete and functional, it has no lesion, the more attention placed on a stimulus, the more intense is the memorization of the elements involved in the stimulus.

The opposite is also true, the less attention, the less memory. It comes from that, when attention is small, the learning process that comes from memorization, is also small.

When we compare the two extremes of life: childhood and old age, we have a contrast between the first, low attention and overcapacity of memorization, and the second, high attention and low memorization. The differences in this situation derive from different neurological conditions.

In childhood, the brain still in development, and does not allow the perfect voluntary control of attention. Thus, dispersion, distraction and, as a result, low concentration maintenance time. Nevertheless, as memorization structures are powerfully active, the child learns extremely ease. The evolutionary idea behind it is to live out everything is possible to learn as much as possible. Learn a lot with low depth on each topic.

Then, over time, the child should gain the ability to control attention and thus be able to concentrate more easily and powerfully, as a consequence to learn more about each theme.

In old age, when there is a reduction of neurological structures, the capacity for attention continues, at least partially, integrates. The ability to rescue memory as well. But the relation between attention and memorization gradually fades away, so that the apprehension and learning of new elements contained in the present are not affected.

Thus, while attentive to the present, the elderly in this situation, can not store the newly received information, although clearly remember past things in childhood.

I followed in the office some curious situations related to this topic.
The first, which I would like to share, is very common these days. The mother complaining about the child who has attention deficit, with poor results at school, but can spend hours playing?

The game has an extremely high and pleasant stimulus turnover. And if we compare to the school, it is clearer to understand. A typical school class takes about 40 minutes (multiplied for 5 or 6 times a day). This means that, for this period of time, the child needs to be concentrated as much as possible in a more or less one theme, with very few variations of stimuli, (basically, present in the tone of the teacher’s voice). Many students are conditioned to pay more or less attention in class, according to this variation in teacher intonation or tone of voice.

In a video game, the stimulus tends to be present for a maximum of 15 seconds, then it is exchanged for another that will also last at most 15 seconds. That is, the bird’s ability to concentrate is enough to extract from this stimulus all the information it offers. The bird’s neurological apparatus is not enough to solve the reasoning brought about by the stimulus, let alone solve the problems derived from it.

Video games require high or very high intelligence and memory, although they demand very low attention. School requires very high attention, although almost never require intelligence. By the way, when we look at our children’s school events, we are often motivated by activities and tasks. We, adults, end up loving the school more than the child. Because it is repetitive and full of repetitions and NO challenge. Finally, school is boring (my blog, my opinion).

The game captivates, engages, thrills and charges a very low neurological price for this. The school charges are expensive and only offers boredom and frustration, like life, by the way, the perfect training program. I guarantee that four drops of Bach floral four times a day will help your child deal with school boredom more easily than endless speeches about the future. I have watched this movie many, many times in the office.

On the other side of life is old age (not even that old). The widow or the couple of about 68, both retired recently. They receive visits from their children and grandchildren every weekend. It means that their family is very lovely and nearby them. No, it means that they spend the whole week watching TV and muttering to each other, while wait for the weekend. They spend the week in a routine, without the need to inform the memory of new stimuli that need to be apprehended.

Therefore, despite the attention attached to the stove’s fire, in a few minutes, this information that should be latent in memory, fades. Lost yourself. The brain unlearns to learn.

In this situation, since before the problem gets worse, some homeopathic and floral help. Of course, I pull the text for my present business. But, it’s not just to create links. The experience, prior to my marriage (a Bach therapist, excellent by the way), reminds me of Dr. Elizabeth (who knows me Knows who I speak of) and her perfect feelling for homeopathy.

In both the cases the enthusiasm for the stimulus and the emotion derived from it are the key to success. The taste of life derives from this spice generated by the emotions, be they negative or positive. So creating an exciting living space (of course, preferably with the most positive emotions) provokes interest in the experience of living. It does not matter whether in a small life of an elderly couple who play cards together or whether a bunch of noisy children attack each other in a game of Uno, all indoors, sitting at the table.

We imagine, each one of us, in his own way, this exciting life, we end up for idealizing it, making routine and simplicity lose their charm. This Instagram life, so idealized: big parties, big trips, big blábláblás, do not serve to maintain the enthusiasm for a long life term. On the contrary, without stimuli like alcohol and flirtation, they quickly enter a routine space. See who travels to work, bore life, after sometimes, what moves is not the trip, is the money.

Continuous change is the key. So, playing cards, Magic: The Gathering, Dominoes, Uno, are excellent tools. Each match is unique in its opportunities, possibilities, strategies, and unfolding. Play canasta with the children, play Magic with the elderly and the children. Involve and develop. kill them all in UNO!

Florais, homeopatia e baralho

O cérebro desaprende a aprender.

A experiência, anterior ao meu casamento, me remete a Dra.

Vide quem viaja a trabalho.

A mudança contínua é a chave. Envolva e desenvolva.
